The Commonalities and Differences Between HPL and PVC

There are two main finish used in raised floor system. They are HPL (high pressure laminate) and PVC. Today we mainly compare the commonalities and differences between these two coverings.

The Characteristics of HPL and PVC

High pressure laminate is hard anti-static special fireproof board, which is made of phenolic and melamine resin treated with various special papers. And it is made of resin decorative laminate made of high temperature and high pressure. The use of nanotechnology in the resin to increase the anti-pollution, wear resistance and long-lasting static charge elimination characteristics. So it is a commonly used veneer in the anti-static floor industry.

PVC coverings have long-lasting anti-static properties and stable electrical conductivity. It uses a conductive network formed by the interface of plastic particles with multiple patterns on the surface. The appearance resembles a marble pattern and has a good decorative effect. But its surface wear resistance is slightly weaker than that of the HPL finish.

The Applicable Environment

It is more suitable for HPL in warm and humid climates. HPL has good stability and is not easy to crack. PVC and HPL are both used in the south areas. They can be customized according to the temperature in the room. For example, in gulf areas,it is a good choice for HPL finish. During the delivery, the temperature in the container could reach up to 75℃ – 80℃,which is too high. So considering the temperature and humid factor, the answer shows clearly.

In cold and dry climates, the temperature and environmental humidity cannot meet the technical standards set by the state. And the HPL veneer accelerates shrinkage and causes shelling and cracking. PVC raised floor is more suitable for the environment.

Process Development

Even with the development of production technology, anti-cracking performance of HPL gets better and better. However, on the market, the price of PVC is more expensive than HPL material. The surface of the PVC veneer is a specially processed wear layer. The shortest service life is 5 years. Moreover, the quality floor can keep intact for more than 10 years. Of course, the HPL covering is the same.

PVC Finish

Commonality

Both HPL and PVC has the international ISO green certification. The certification is one of the standards to ensure the quality of the veneer. So they are all anti-static coverings with good anti-static properties.

HPL and PVC are water resistant and fire and noise prevention. Moreover, the workers can install them very fast. In addition, there are no seams and weld marks. So it can be used one day after installation.
